About NCL The Local Bar & Grill

The Local Bar & Grill is a popular casual restaurant on ships from Norwegian Cruise Line. It offers a relaxed pub-style dining experience where guests can enjoy simple comfort food at almost any time of the day. During my cruise on the Norwegian Aqua, I spent time at The Local Bar & Grill and quickly found it to be one of the most convenient places to eat on the ship.

The atmosphere at The Local feels cozy and welcoming. Inside, there are comfortable booths, tables, and bar-style seating where guests can relax and watch the activity around the ship. On some ships, including newer ones like Norwegian Aqua, the restaurant also offers outdoor seating with beautiful ocean views. Because it also has a full-service bar, many cruisers stop here not only for food but also to enjoy cocktails, beer, wine, or even watch live sports in a casual setting.

During my visit, I saw popular items like burgers, hot dogs, chicken wings, sandwiches, and fish and chips, along with a few classic desserts. The food is casual but satisfying, making it perfect when you want something quick instead of a long sit-down meal. The menu also includes flavors inspired by American bar food with small international touches, so there is usually something for everyone.

One of the best things about The Local Bar & Grill is that the food is complimentary, meaning it is included in standard cruise fare. Guests can enjoy breakfast, lunch, dinner, or late-night snacks without paying extra. However, drinks from the bar are not included unless you have a beverage package. If you order alcoholic drinks or specialty beverages, they will be charged to your account and a service gratuity is usually added automatically.

Another reason I enjoyed eating here was the relaxed dress code. The Local follows a cruise casual style, so guests can wear comfortable clothes like jeans, shorts, polo shirts, or casual dresses. Swimwear alone is not allowed, but if you are coming from the pool, a cover-up and footwear are perfectly fine.

The restaurant also follows Norwegian’s famous Freestyle Cruising concept, which means reservations are not required. Guests can simply walk in whenever they feel hungry. During busy hours there may be a short wait, but tables usually become available quickly.

NCL The Local Bar & Grill Hours

During my cruise on the Norwegian Aqua, I found The Local Bar & Grill to be one of the most convenient places to eat on the ship. It stays open for most of the day, so it was easy to grab something whenever I felt hungry. I especially liked stopping by in the morning for a quick breakfast before starting my day on board.

Breakfast at The Local is served from 5:00 AM to 10:30 AM. Later in the day, lunch is available from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM, and dinner runs from 5:00 PM until about 11:00 PM.

My Honest Review

During my cruise on Norwegian Aqua, I visited The Local Bar & Grill several times, and it quickly became one of my favorite casual dining spots on the ship thanks to its relaxed atmosphere and convenient walk-in dining.

Two dishes that stood out to me the most were the Cobb salad and the chicken wings. The Cobb salad tasted fresh and flavorful, with crisp lettuce and generous toppings that made it both light and satisfying. The chicken wings were also very enjoyable, coming with a tasty sauce and good flavor. Even though they are baked rather than deep-fried, they still made a great casual snack to share and paired perfectly with the relaxed pub-style setting.

Another highlight was the fish and chips, where the fish was tender and flaky inside with a nicely crisp coating on the outside, served with fries and tartar sauce. I also really liked the Reuben sandwich, which had toasted bread, warm meat, and a tangy sauce that worked very well together.

For dessert, the apple pie and the carrot and walnut cake were both excellent. The apple pie had a warm, comforting flavor, while the carrot and walnut cake was moist, rich, and perfectly sweet.

Overall, my experience at The Local Bar & Grill was very positive. The food is simple but delicious, portions are satisfying, and the casual atmosphere makes it a reliable place to grab comfort food anytime during the cruise. If you’re sailing with Norwegian Cruise Line, it’s definitely a great spot to enjoy relaxed meals and late-night bites.
