When it comes to the Main Dining Room, many cruisers think it’s only for formal dining but that’s not true. During my Carnival Jubilee cruise, I visited the Main Dining Room multiple times and realized that things weren’t that formal except on elegant nights.
This blog will help first-time cruisers who often skip the Main Dining Room, thinking it’s too fancy, when in reality it’s one of the most relaxed and enjoyable dining spots onboard.
I’m sharing the new Carnival Main Dining Room menus for 2025 that I personally experienced along with helpful tips about dining times and reservations to help you plan your meals like a pro on your next Carnival cruise.
About Carnival Main Dining Rooms
Each Carnival Cruise ship has at least two Main Dining Rooms, usually spread across multiple decks, often sharing the same name. All Main Dining Rooms serve identical menus each night, so guests can enjoy the same delicious dishes no matter where they’re seated.
The menus rotate daily, offering a variety of appetizers, main courses, and desserts that change throughout the voyage. Menu selections may vary slightly depending on the length and itinerary of the cruise, which adds a nice touch of variety for returning guests.
Carnival Cruise Line also hosts Elegant Night in the main dining room, depending on the sailing, with a special menu where guests can enjoy dishes like lobster tail at no extra cost.
Carnival Dining Times
Many cruisers think the Main Dining Room on Carnival is just for dinner, but that’s not true. It’s also open for breakfast and brunch, giving guests a full sit-down dining experience.
On port days, breakfast is served from 7:00 AM to 9:30 AM. During sea days, the dining room hosts Sea Day Brunch from 8:30 AM to 12:00 PM. It’s one of my favorite meals onboard because you can order both breakfast and lunch dishes.
Dinner in the Main Dining Room is served every evening with three different seating options including Fixed Dining (early and late) and Your Time Dining. Fixed Dining works well for those who enjoy a set routine, offering early seating at 5:30 PM and late seating at 7:30 PM.
If you prefer more flexibility, Your Time Dining is perfect, allowing you to dine anytime between 5:00 PM and 8:30 PM. No matter which option you choose, you’ll enjoy the same delicious food and friendly service every night.

Carnival Main Dining Room Reservations
During my sailing, I learned that making reservations for the Main Dining Room depends on the dining option you choose. If you have Fixed Dining, you don’t need to make any reservations at all. You’ll have a set dinner time every evening, along with the same table and wait staff. On the first night, the crew will escort you to your table, but after that, you can simply walk in and head straight to your spot.
If you choose Your Time Dining, it works a little differently. This option gives you more flexibility, and you can even make a reservation through the Carnival Hub App when you’re ready to eat between 5:30 PM and 9:00 PM.
Just open the app, go to Food & Drinks → Dinner → Dining Room, select who’s dining with you and check in. The app will show your estimated wait time. Once your table is ready, you’ll get a notification with your table number and you’ll have 10 minutes to arrive. Just show the notification to the host at the entrance and they’ll escort you to your table.
Walk-ins are also welcome, but from what I saw, it’s much easier to get your preferred time if you book through the app especially on sea days when everyone wants to dine around the same hour.

Carnival Main Dining Room Dress Code
When it comes to dinner on Carnival, the vibe is mostly casual and relaxed. You’ll see guests wearing comfy yet neat outfits around the ship, and that same style continues in the Main Dining Room. Most nights follow a Cruise Casual dress code, so you don’t need to dress fancy.
I usually wore a casual shirt with trousers, and it felt just right for the setting. The atmosphere was friendly and easygoing, so even simple outfits fit perfectly without feeling underdressed. For men, polo shirts, jeans, or nice shorts with closed-toe shoes work well. For women, casual dresses, skirts, or cute summer outfits are ideal. Flip-flops, swimwear, and sportswear aren’t allowed in the dining room, which helps keep the space neat but relaxed.
Then come the Cruise Elegant nights, which are a fun change of pace. These happen once or twice per cruise depending on cruise length and give everyone a reason to dress up. On my sailing, I wore a navy blazer with a white shirt and black pants, and it felt great seeing everyone look their best. The dining room seemed brighter, people were taking photos, and the whole evening felt more festive.
If you prefer staying casual on those nights, the Lido Marketplace buffet is always a great option. Overall, Carnival’s dress code keeps things simple and comfortable while still making dinner feel like a special occasion.
My Final Thoughts on the Main Dining Room
After sailing on Carnival, I can honestly say the Main Dining Room is one of the best complimentary dining options onboard and perfect for breakfast, brunch, or dinner if you want to try something new every day without paying extra.
The food quality really impressed me. Each meal felt freshly prepared, and there was always a wide variety to choose from including appetizers, entrées, steakhouse selections, and desserts. I even enjoyed a delicious lobster tail on the second Elegant Night, which was included at no extra cost.
The staff made the experience even better. My servers remembered my name, my favorite drink, and even joked with me each evening. Their warm service made every dinner feel personal and special, not just another meal at sea.
Overall, the Main Dining Room truly delivers the full cruise dining experience with great food, friendly service, and moments that make you look forward to every meal. If you are sailing with Carnival, make sure you do not skip it.
